Overview

Upper Ramboda Fall, also known as Ihala Ramboda Ella, is a 12-metre-high waterfall located in the Ramboda area of the Nuwara Eliya District. It is one of three waterfalls formed by the Ramboda Oya within a few kilometres of each other.

The Ramboda waterfall system includes: - Ihala Ramboda Ella (Upper Ramboda Fall) – 12 metres high - Meda Ramboda Ella (Center Ramboda Fall) – 6 metres high - Pahala Ramboda Ella (Lower Ramboda Fall) – 15 metres high

Unlike the center waterfall, which is visible directly from the Gampola–Nuwara Eliya Road near the Ramboda Tunnel, the Upper Ramboda Fall is hidden from the main road and requires a hike to reach.

The trail begins at the bridge near the Center Ramboda waterfall. From there, visitors climb approximately 1.5 km uphill via a series of steps leading to a viewing platform overlooking the upper cascade. The hike is moderately challenging but manageable for most visitors with basic fitness.

Surrounded by lush greenery and misty highland scenery, Upper Ramboda Fall offers a quieter experience compared to the roadside Center Ramboda waterfall.
