Introduction
Welcome to Ceylon Folk (ceylonfolk.com). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle information when you visit our website.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. This policy provides notice about those practices; it does not treat continued browsing as consent where applicable law requires a separate choice.
Information We Collect
Ceylon Folk is a static content website. We do not operate user accounts, comment systems, or forms that collect personally identifiable information directly.
However, certain information may be collected automatically when you visit the site through third-party services we use:
- Log data — your browser may send standard HTTP request data including IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages visited. This is processed by our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) and is not stored or used by us directly.
- Analytics data — when Google Analytics is enabled, it may collect page views, device information, and selected interactions such as searches, filters, destination opens, and directions clicks. Search phrases, contact-form content, and precise destination coordinates are not included in Ceylon Folk's analytics events.
- My Trip data — destination identifiers you save are kept in your browser's local storage. The shortlist is not an account, is not sent to Ceylon Folk, and can be removed with Clear My Trip or your browser's data controls.
- Comparison links — destination identifiers selected for comparison appear in the page URL so the comparison can be bookmarked or shared. Comparison analytics send only the number of selected places, not the identifiers or shared URL.
- Advertising data — third-party advertising vendors and ad networks, including Google, may place or read cookies or use web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers as a result of ad serving, as described below.
Cookies and Browser Storage
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to website owners.
Ceylon Folk does not use cookies for user accounts or profiles. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers when it is configured. Google AdSense and its advertising partners may use first-party or third-party cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and similar technologies when advertising tags or ads are loaded. YouTube videos use privacy-enhanced embeds, but YouTube may still receive information or use storage when you choose to load or play embedded content.
Where a Google consent message applies, the choices presented through that message control the consent signals available to Google's advertising and analytics services. You can also control or delete stored data through your browser settings.
The My Trip shortlist uses local storage for its core function, independently of advertising cookies. It stores only published destination identifiers on the current device and does not synchronize them between browsers or devices.
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of embedded content on this site, such as video players.
Third-Party Advertising — Google AdSense
Ceylon Folk includes the publisher tag for, and may display advertisements served by, Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service operated by Google LLC. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve personalised ads based on visits to Ceylon Folk and other sites. Depending on your choices, location, and Google's settings, ads may instead be non-personalised or subject to limited data processing.
As part of this process, Google may:
- Read existing cookies placed by Google or its partners.
- Place or read advertising cookies associated with domains such as doubleclick.net or Google domains.
- Use technologies such as cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers for ad delivery, measurement, fraud and abuse prevention, and—where permitted—personalisation.
Other third-party vendors or ad networks may also serve or measure ads when enabled in the AdSense account. The providers and purposes applicable to a consent request are identified in the consent message. Google also publishes information about AdSense ad technology partners. Ceylon Folk does not directly control cookies or identifiers used by Google or another enabled advertising provider.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info. For a broader explanation of information sent to Google when this site uses AdSense, Analytics, or YouTube, read how Google uses information from partner sites. You can also review Google's advertising technologies information.
How We Use Information
Any information that may be passively collected through the services described above is used solely for the following purposes:
- To maintain and improve the performance of this website.
- To understand how visitors use the site so we can publish better content.
- To display relevant advertisements that help support the free operation of Ceylon Folk.
Ceylon Folk does not sell personal information. When third-party services described in this policy are enabled, a visitor's browser may communicate directly with those providers so they can deliver, secure, measure, or improve their services.
Data Protection
Ceylon Folk takes reasonable precautions to ensure that any data processed in connection with this website is handled securely. The website is served over HTTPS and hosted on Cloudflare Pages' secure global infrastructure.
Because we do not operate a database or collect personal data directly, there is no user data stored on servers operated by Ceylon Folk.
Links to External Sites
Ceylon Folk contains links to external websites including maps, government tourism pages, YouTube videos, and other travel resources. These links are provided for your convenience.
We have no control over the content or privacy practices of external sites and accept no responsibility for them. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any external site you visit through links on this website.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights under applicable data protection laws, including:
- The right to know what data is held about you.
- The right to request deletion of your data.
- The right to opt out of targeted advertising (see the Google AdSense section above for opt-out options).
As Ceylon Folk does not collect personal data directly, most of these rights apply to data held by third-party services (such as Google). To exercise rights relating to data held by Google, please visit Google's Data & Privacy page.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
