About Ceylon Folk
Ceylon Folk is a dedicated Sri Lanka travel guide that helps curious travellers research waterfalls, highland trails, viewpoints, cultural sites, and national parks through practical destination information and locally informed planning context.
The site combines firsthand material where it is available, official sources for regulated matters such as tickets, permits, transport, and protected areas, and locally reviewed route details where that input is identified. It does not claim that every destination has been inspected recently in person.
Ceylon Folk is built for the traveller who wants to explore beyond the tourist trail and experience Sri Lanka the way locals do.
Our Mission
Sri Lanka brings exceptional natural and cultural variety into a compact island, but useful planning information is often scattered across destination pages, official services, and local knowledge. Our mission is to make that information easier to understand.
We document Sri Lanka's waterfalls, hiking trails, and highland viewpoints in enough depth to support more informed and safety-conscious planning. Every guide on Ceylon Folk aims to answer the questions that matter: how to get there, when to go, what to expect, and how to stay safe.
We are also committed to promoting responsible travel. Our guides include Leave No Trace reminders, wildlife awareness notes, and guidance on respecting local communities and protected forest reserves.
About the Creator
Ceylon Folk is the public identity of the independent Sri Lanka-based travel creator who has been documenting the island's destinations since 2020. The project is created and maintained by one person, not a large editorial team.
The photographs and videos published by Ceylon Folk were captured by the creator while visiting the places shown. Those pages may include firsthand observations and local route knowledge from the documented visit. A photograph or video supports only the place and experience it actually shows; it is not used to imply that every published destination has been inspected recently in person.
Guides carry the public byline Ceylon Folk. Information that does not come from a documented visit is researched through responsible official sources or identified local input, depending on the destination and the type of fact. Time-sensitive access, fees, permits, transport, and protected-area rules are presented with sources or a clear instruction to verify current conditions.
The companion YouTube channel @ceylonfolk documents these expeditions in video form, giving travellers a visual preview of trails, falls, and routes before they set out. Ceylon Folk is an independent, self-funded project and clearly distinguishes available firsthand material from official research and locally reviewed information.
How We Research and Review Guides
- Firsthand and local material: original observations, photography, video, access knowledge, and locally reviewed route advice are used where they are genuinely available and identified by the guide.
- Responsible sources: official authorities and responsible institutional sources are preferred for tickets, permits, protected-area rules, transport, weather, and other information that can change.
- Uncertainty is retained: an old estimate or unverified operational claim is not presented as current fact. Guides tell readers what should be confirmed again before travel.
- Review dates mean real review: a content date is updated only after the relevant guide has been checked. Readers can report a correction through the Contact page.
