Planning a Visit to Central Highlands
On Ceylon Folk, Central Highlands is a practical label for content that spans more than one hill-country base. It is not the same thing as the UNESCO World Heritage property named the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, which has specifically defined protected components.
The only destination guide currently assigned directly to this region is the Pekoe Trail overview. Individual trail stages and nearby highland destinations may use more specific regional labels, so follow those pages for stage-level access and safety information.

Before You Build an Itinerary
- 1Plan a long-distance trail stage by stage; do not use the regional map as a substitute for an official route map.
- 2Check current trail notices, weather and local access before starting any stage.
- 3Arrange transport for both the start and finish when a stage is not a return walk.
- 4Protected areas within the highlands can have separate permits, opening rules and visitor restrictions.
